After several years of hard
work, the dam construction for Lake Troy Douglas was completed in July
of 2000. This state-of-the art dam is 70 feet high and over 1,500
feet long! Over 300,000 cubic yards of earth will hold back the
waters of several springs that form the headwaters of McLendon Creek to
ensure the formation of a beautiful and pristine 80-acre lake.
Considerable hours of planning and hard work went into this project to
make it special in many ways, while retaining the unspoiled nature of our
development. The impounding of water began August 2000 and the
Lake is now at full capacity. Lake Troy Douglas is exclusively for McLendon Hills homeowners and their guest. It
is used for fishing, swimming, sail boating, canoeing, and other
non-gasoline powered boats. McLendon Hills worked with Dr. Jay Carter, a local
biologist, to develop a plan for stocking the lake with the best possible variety of fish. Since the impounding of water began
in August 2000, the lake has been stocked three times. To provide
the ultimate fishing experience, Biologist Dr. J.H. Carter and his team
of environmental consultants, through detailed planning and management,
have ensured quality fishing and recreational enjoyment for years to
come. Below are some pictures of the dam construction. (To see a full-sized picture of each of these, double click on the
